Temple Basin carpark is located beside State Highway 73, 4km west of Arthur's Pass Township. The highway is sealed for its complete length between Christchurch and Greymouth so it is open most of the time.

Northwesterlies rising to 60 km/h at lower levels during the morning, then easing in the evening. Severe northwest gales 90 km/h about the tops, turning southwest 70km/h in the afternoon.
